Author Felix Paul Wierbicki, a Polish exile who lived in Providence for a time, modeled characters in his book, The Ideal Man (1841), after the Manton family of Providence. He learned about them through a mutual friend, music teacher and composer Edward B. Bohuszewicz, another Polish exile living in the city.
